Abstract

Looking back although being the fourth stage in the Polya problem-solving process, when it is used, this phase transforms into a crucial one for the accuracy of the problem-solving process. Due to the value of looking back, this study examined how well students could do when solving geometrical problems. Research was conducted using descriptive qualitative methods. Ways for gathering data were in the form of tests and interviews. Problem sheets and interviews were employed as supporting instruments in addition to the researcher, who served as the research's primary instrument. Semi-structured interviews were undertaken to check the test sheet that the research participants had completed based on the Polya stage, and they were then explicitly investigated further based on the three components possessed in the looking back stage. Students who raised looking back and had alternate options were the research subjects. Up to 3 students were found. The study's findings demonstrated that (1) students demonstrated mental processes connected to a variety of approaches to problem-solving when identifying potential alternate solutions. (2) as they tested various hypotheses, students applied various problem-solving techniques and could identify more effective solutions. Students should be able to identify solutions that were in line with the questions posed and were able to solve these questions in a variety of ways and methodologies when selecting the best hypothesis, according to step three. The findings obtained in this study were the tendency to use images as an alternative solution at the looking back stage. Keywords: Looking back, Problem Solving, Geometry, Students
