Berdasarkan data awal di SDN 005 Bahau Hulu ditemukan berbagai masalah dalam pembelajaran IPA pada siswa kelas V antara lain: didalam pembelajaran guru menggunakan metode tidak sesuai dengan materi. Sehingga mengolah kelas kuarang optimal yang menjadikan siswa tidak aktif, kurang antusias, bahkan siswa tidak menguasai konsep IPA. Faktor tersebut mengakibatkan pada hasil belajar siswa rendah. Model Kooperatif Tipe STAD merupakan alternatif solusi untuk mengatasi masalah dalam pembelajaran IPA di SD pada kelas V.
Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas yang terdiri dari 2 siklus. Tiap siklus terdiri dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Penelitian menggunakan metode. Penelitian dilakukan di SDN 005 Bahau Hulu, dengan subjek penelitian kelas V dengan jumlah 12 siswa, terdiri dari 8 perempuan dan 4 laki-laki. Variabel yang digunakan adalah keterampilan guru, aktivitas siswa, dan hasil belajar siswa. Sumber data berasal dari guru, foto, dan instrumen yang digunakan adalah observasi dan catatan lapangan.
Hasil penelitian berdasarkan data hasil observasi keterampilan guru, keaktifan siswa, dan hasil belajar siswa pada pembelajaran IPA melalui metode demonstrasi. Peneliti memperoleh hasil penilaian aktivitas siswa yang masih berada pada kategori cukup dengan nilai 63, aktivitas guru pada kategori baik dengan nilai 66 serta hasil belajar IPA pada ketiga aspek kognitif sebesar 33%, afektif 66% dan psikomotorik 66%. Pada siklus II aktivitas belajar siswa yaitu berada pada kategori sangat baik dengan nilai 83, aktivitas guru pada saat proses pembelajaran berada pada kategori sangat baik dengan nilai 91.
Berdasarkan penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran IPA melalui metode demonstrasi pembelajaran dapat berhasil, sehingga dapat dijadikan salah satu aternatif solusi untuk meningkatkan pembelajaran IPA di SD.
