Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi sikap siswa terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, khususnya pembelajaran Berbicara dari segi perilaku, kognitif dan emosional. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian Sekuensial Eksplanatori yang mengkombinasikan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif atau lebih dikenal dengan sebutan pendekatan metode campuran. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Universitas Borneo Tarakan. Agar memperoleh data kuantitatif, alat ukur yang digunakan adalah kuesioner yang berfokus pada sikap siswa terhadap pembelajaran berbicara dari segi perilaku, kognitif dan emosional. Menggunakan teknik total sampling, total 72 partisipan dari dua lokal (A dan B) dilibatkan dalam sesi kuantitatif ini. Selain itu, digunakan pula panduan wawancara yang merupakan bagian dari sesi kualitatif untuk mengintensifkan penyelidikan terhadap masalah tersebut. 8 mahasiswa terpilih dari lokal A melalui observasi dan selanjutnya mereka akan dilibatkan dalam sesi wawancara. Hasil dari penelitian kuantitatif menunjukkan bahwa kebanyakan dari mahasiswa pada lokal A, memiliki perilaku, kognisi serta sikap emosional yang positif. Hasil tersebut dikuatkan dengan hasil temuan kualitatif yang menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas mahasiswa menunjukan sikap positif dalam segi perilaku, kognitif dan emosional. Disamping itu, hasil temuan pada penelitian kualitatif memaparkan bukti-bukti mengenai beberapa perihal yang berkaitan dengan hasil penelitian kuantitatif. Sebaliknya, hasil penelitan kualitatif tersebut menunjukkan bahwa beberapa mahasiswa dari lokal B cenderung memiliki perilaku dan sikap emosional yang negatif dan sikap kognitif yang positif.

The aim of this study was to investigate the students’ attitude toward their learning English, particularly Speaking in terms of behavioral, cognitive and emotional aspects. This research used sequential explanatory design which combines quantitative and qualitative data or as known as mixed-method approach. This study took place at Borneo University of Tarakan. In order to collect the quantitative data, the measuring instrument used was a questionnaire which focused on the attitudes towards learning speaking in terms of cognitive, emotional and behavioral aspects. Using total sampling, a total of 72 participants from two locals (A and B) were involved to this quantitative part. In addition, the qualitative part used interview guide to intensify the investigation. 8 students chosen from local A were chosen through the observation and later were interviewed. The result of quantitative shows that most of students in local A possessed positive behavioral attitude as well as cognitive and emotional attitude. Those results were intensified by the qualitative findings which show that most of them exhibit positive attitude in term of behavioral, cognitive and emotional. Besides, the qualitative findings also provided evidence for some issues which related to the result of quantitative. In contrast the quantitative result shows that some of students in local B possessed negative attitude. The result of analysis revealed that the students of local B tended to have negative behavioral and emotional attitude while they have positive cognitive attitude.
