Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas teknik positive reinforcement terhadap kepercayaan diri siswa kelas VII di SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan Tahun Pelajaran 2015/2016. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian pre experimental design dengan bentuk one group pretest-posttest. Populasi dalam penelitian ini yaitu 125 siswa kelas VII SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan dan sampel 7 siswa. Metode pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan skala kepercayaan diri dengan skala likert. Penelitian ini menggunakan rumus product moment untuk uji validitas skala kepercayaan diri dengan hasil dari 45 butir pernyataan terdapat 27 butir yang valid. Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik analisis deskriptif dan inferensial dengan menggunakan program SPSS 22.0 for windows.
Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan uji Wilcoxon dengan analisis menggunakan SPSS 22.0 for windows diperoleh nilai asymp sig= 0,018, α = 0,05 maka H0 ditolak yang berarti bahwa ada perbedaan kepercayaan diri siswa sebelum dan sesudah diberikan perlakuan teknik positive reinforcement. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik positive reinforcement efektif terhadap kepercayaan diri siswa kelas VII di SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan tahun pelajaran 2015/2016.

This research aimed to know the effectiveness of positive reinforcement techniques to students’ self confidence in grade VII of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan in Academic Year 2015/2016. The design of this research was pre experimental design with one group pretest-posttest. Population in this research were 125 students in grade VIII of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan and the samples were 7 students. The method of collecting data in this research used students’ self confidence scale with licert scale. The researcher used moment product formula for validity test of students’ self confidence scale. As the result, from 45 statements there were 27 valid statement. The data analysis techniques in this research were descriptive statistic technic and inferential statistic which techniques with SPSS 22 program for windows. Based on the counting result of Wilcoxon test with SPSS 22 program for windows analysis it was obtained the score of asymp sig = 0,018 α = 0,05 so H0is rejected. It means that there is an influence of students’ self confidence before and after giving the treatment of the positive reinforcement techniques. Overall, it can be concluded that there is an effectiveness of positive reinforcement techniques toward students’ self confidence in grade VII of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan in Academic Year 2015/2016.
