Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan picture as learning media dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis bagi siswa kelas delapan SMPN 9 Tarakan pada tahun ajaran 2017/2018. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah quasi- experimental Sampel diambil dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Penelitian ini hanya menggunakan satu kelas experiment kelas sebagai sampel penelitian. Kelas yang digunakan sebagai sampel penelitian adalah kelas VIII-A yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan picture as learning media. Kelas delapan terdiri dari 4 (empat) kelas, kelas VIII-A dipilih oleh peneliti karena nilai rata-rata siswa dikelas VIIIA dalam aspek menulis terendah dari pada kelas yang lain dan tidak adanya siswa yang mencapai kriteria ketuntasan minimal khususnya dalam hal menulis. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes tertulis. Data yang dianalisis adalah data nilai hasil pretest dan posttest. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan Independent Sample T-test dengan SPSS 24.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata hasil pretest experiment class adalah 55 dan nilai control class untuk pre tesst 61. rata-rata hasil posttest experiment 71,5. Kemudian hasil dari post test untuk control class 67. Hasil dari Independent sample T-test pada tingkat signifikansi 0.05 adalah 0.122. Tidak hanya hasil dari nilai rata-rata pretest posttest dan Independent sample test pada tingkat signifikansi 0.05, tetapi juga dari nilai T-test (1.567). dan nilai T-table adalah (1.999). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa Independent sample t-test lebih tinggi dari pada nilai T-table (0.122 > 0.05). Dengan kata lain, hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak dan hipotesis alternative (Ha) diterima. Hasil analisis data membuktikan bahwa hasil pengajaran menggunakan picture as learning media memberikan dampak yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa picture as learning media dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa kelas VIII-A SMPN 9 Tarakan.

The objective of this research was to find out whether there was any significant Effect of Picture word inductive model in teaching English to improve the students’ writing ability at the eighth grade students of SMPN 9 Tarakan. The method that used in this research was quasi experimental design. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling technique. This research only used two class as the sample of the research. Class VIII-A was a sample of this research which was taught by using Picture as learning media . Eighth grade it consists of 4 (four ) classes, class VIII-A was chosen by the researcher because the students’ mean score in class VIII-A in writing aspect was lower than the other classes and there was no student who achieve the criteria of success in English especially in writing aspect. The instrument of this research was writing test. The data which analysed was the data from pretest and posttest. In analysing the data, the researcher used Independent sample T-test with SPSS 24.0. The result shows that the improvement of the mean score from pretest experiment class was 55 and control class 61 . Result of the Independent sample T-test at the level of significance 0.05 was 0.122. Not only the result of mean score pretest posttest and result of Independent sample T-test, but also from the value of T-test and T-table. T-test value was 1.567 and T-table value was 0.122. It indicates that the value of T-test was higher than T-table (1.567 > 0.122). In other words, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The result of the data analysis proves that taught by using Picture as learning media gave the significant effect to the students’ writing ability. It can be concluded that Picture as learning media can improve the students’ writing ability at the Eighth grade students of SMPN 9 Tarakan.
