Abstract
Pemahaman karir sekolah lanjutan ditandai pada pemahaman diri, pemahaman program jurusan dan pemahaman lingkungan. pemahaman karir sekolah lanjutan dapat menentukan dan memilih program jurusan yang diinginkan oleh siswa. Teknik symbolic modeling diharapkan memiliki daya tarik dalam memahami informasi karir sehingga pemahaman karir dapat ditingkatkan. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh teknik symbolic modeling terhadap pemahaman karir tentang sekolah lanjutan di kelas IX MTs Negeri Tarakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif dengan pendekatan Pra-eksperimen dengan one grup pretestposttest design. Populasi penelitian ini berjumlah 123 siswa kemudian sampel 25 siswa melalui random sampling. skala pemahaman karir digunakan sebagai instrument dalam pemahaman karir sekolah lanjutan. Realibilitas diuji menggunakan Alpha Cronbach diperoleh koefisien 0,685 yang menunjukan tingkat realibilitas tinggi. Analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan analisis inferensial menggunakan uji paired samples t-tes dengan bantuan IBM SPSS 22.0 for windows. Berdasarkan analisis data statistik hasil perhitungan uji paired samples t-tes nilai sig 2 tailed sebesar 0,000 dengan taraf signifikansi α sebesar 0,05 maka H0 ditolak. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa ada pengaruh teknik symbolic modeling terhadap pemahaman karir tentang sekolah lanjutan di kelas IX MTs Negeri Tarakan. Dengan demikian, perlu diterapkan teknik symbolic modeling terhadap siswa agar lebih dapat meningkatkan rasa pemahaman karir mereka tentang sekolah lanjutan.

Career understanding of further school is marked by self-understanding, understanding of the study program and understanding the environment. By understanding higher school careers students can determine and choose the majors desired by them. Symbolic modeling techniques are expected to have an effect on understanding career information so that the career understanding can be improved. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of symbolic modeling techniques on career understanding of ninth grade students at the MTs Negeri Tarakan. This study used a quantitative method with a pre-experimental approach with one group pretest-posttest design. The population of this study was 123 students and the sample was 25 students taken through random sampling. Career understanding questionnaire was used as the research instrument. Reliability was tested using Cronbach Alpha and it was obtained that the coefficient was 0.685 which indicated a high level of reliability. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (paired samples t-test) with the help of IBM SPSS 22.0 for windows. The results of paired samples t-test indicated that the sig (2 tailed) value was 0,000, with a significance level of 0.05 which meant that the H0 was rejected. There was an influence of symbolic modeling techniques on career understanding about further school among the ninth grade students at MTs Negeri Tarakan. Thus, it is necessary to apply symbolic modeling techniques to students so that they can improve their sense of career understanding about further school.
