Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gaya belajar yang dominan di SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan dan Satit Wat Phrasri Bangkok, dan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan antara gaya belajar siswa dan prestasi bahasa Inggris siswa kelas sembilan di SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan dan Satit Wat Phrasri Bangkok. Gaya belajar diidentifikasi berdasarkan kuesioner dan wawancara, sedangkan dokumen berupa daftar nilai bahasa Inggris siswa yang diperoleh dari guru bahasa Inggris. Sampel diambil sebanyak 150 siswa dari 497, 75 siswa Indonesia dan 75 siswa Thailand, dengan menggunakan purposive stratified random sampling, di Indonesia terdapat 38 siswa (50%) memiliki gaya belajar visual, 23 siswa (30%) memiliki gaya belajar auditory, dan 14 siswa (16%) memiliki gaya belajar kinestetik. Sedangkan di Thailand, 22 siswa (29%) memiliki gaya belajar visual, 25 siswa (33%) memiliki gaya belajar auditory dan 28 siswa (37%) memiliki gaya belajar kinestetik. Hasil penelitian tentang perbedaan antara gaya belajar siswa pada siswa kelas sembilan SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan dan Satit Wat Phrasri Bangkok (1) gaya belajar siswa yang paling dominan di SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan adalah Visual dan Kinestetik untuk siswa di Wat Phrasri Mahadhat Bangkok (2) Ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara gaya belajar siswa pada siswa kelas sembilan SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan dan Satit Wat Phrasri Bangkok. Hasil uji normalitas, variansi homogenitas dan hasil sampel independen uji-T dalam penelitian ini lebih tinggi dari pada tingkat signifikansi (> 0,05). Artinya seluruh variabel memiliki distribusi normal dan datanya homogen. Selain itu, dari hasil uji sampel independen menunjukkan nilai T-test adalah 3,276 dan T-tabel 148, hal ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai T-test lebih tinggi dari T-table (3.276> 1.655). Artinya ada perbedaan antara gaya belajar siswa kelas sembilan SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan dan Satit Wat Phrasri Bangkok.

The objectives of this research is to know the dominant learning style at SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan and Satit Wat Phrasri Bangkok, and to know is there any differences between students learning style and their English achievement of the ninth grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan and Satit Wat Phrasri Bangkok. Learning style identified by the questionnaire and interview, while document of the research is the list of score of English achievement was got from the English teacher. The sample total is 150 students, 75 students from Indonesia and 75 students from Thailand out of 497 students. In Indonesia there were 38 students (50 %) has visual learning style, 23 students (30 %) has auditory learning style, and 14 students (16 %) has kinesthetic learning style. While in Thailand, 22 students (29 %) has visual learning style, 25 students (33 %) has auditory learning style and 28 students (37 %) has kinesthetic learning style. The result of the study is about the difference between students learning style at Ninth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan and Satit Wat Phrasri Bangkok (1) the dominant of learning style used by the students at SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan is Visual and Kinesthetic for Wat Phrasri Mahadhat Bangkok students. (2) there is a significant difference between students learning style at Ninth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan and Satit Wat Phrasri Bangkok. The result of normality test, homogeneity of varience and indpendent samples T-test in this study were higher than the level of significance (> 0.05). It means that the entire variable has a normal distribution and the data were homogeneous. Besides, from the result of independent samples T-test showed the value of T-test was 3.276 and T-table 148. it indicates that the value of T-test was higher than T-table ( 3.276 > 1.655). it means there is difference between students learning style at ninth graders of SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan and Satit Wat Phrasri Bangkok.
