Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan teknik Roundtable dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman dalam membaca teks deskriptif bagi siswa kelas delapan MTs Negeri Tarakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental dengan bentuk preeksperimental. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh kelas VIII MTs Negeri Tarakan. Penelitian ini hanya menggunakan satu kelas sebagai sampel penelitian. Kelas yang digunakan sebagai sampel penelitian adalah kelas VIII-B yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik Roundtable. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 30 siswa. Penentuan sampel dengan cara teknik purposive sampling. Tahap-tahap dalam penelitian ini adalah pretest, treatment dan posttest. Pada tahap pretest siswa diminta untuk mengerjakan soal pilihan ganda tentang teks deskriptif. Setelah pretest, peneliti memberikan treatment. Kelas yang diberi perlakuan diajarkan menggunakan Roundtable Technique. Setelah diberikan treatment, siswa diminta untuk mengerjakan soal pilihan ganda tentang teks deskriptif pada tahap posttest. Dalam menganalisis data peneliti menggunakan paired sample t-test dalam aplikasi SPSS 25.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan dari nilai siswa antara pretest dan posttest. Ini dibuktikan melalui hasil nilai rata-rata siswa dari pretest adalah 45.60 dan 55.33 pada hasil posttest. Ini berarti terdapat peningkatan nilai rata-rata sebesar 9.73. Dari hasil analysis data mengindikasikan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan dari nilai Reading Test siswa antara pretest dan posttest. Hasil dari Paired Sample t-test menunjukkan bahwa (7.129) lebih besar dari angka t-table (2.045) itu berarti pemahaman membaca siswa mengalami peningkatan setelah perlakuan diberikan. Sedangkan hasil dari perbandingan sig (2 tailed) 0.000 lebih kecil dari 0.05, itu berarti bahwa Roundtable Technique dapat memberikan kontribusi pada kemampuan pemahaman dalam membaca teks deskriptif bagi siswa. Dari kedua hasil tersebut dapat dilihat bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara pretest dan posttest dalam kemampuan pemahaman dalam membaca teks deskriptif setelah perlakuan yang diberikan oleh peneliti. Berdasarkan penjelasan diatas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa menggunakan Roundtable Technique efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman dalam membaca teks deskriptif bagi siswa kelas VIII-B MTs Negeri Tarakan.

The objective of this research was to find out whether there is any significant effect of using Roundtable Technique to improve students’ reading comprehension ability of descriptive text at eight grade of MTs Negeri Tarakan. The method that used in this research was experimental and used preexperimental design. The population in this research was all of the eight grade students’ at MTs Negeri Tarakan. Class VIII-B was the sample of this research which was taught by using Roundtable Technique. The number of sample in this research was 30 students’. The sample was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The steps in this research were pretest, treatment, and posttest. In the pretest, the students were asked to answer the reading test. After giving pretest, the researcher gave treatment. The treatment class was taught by using Roundtable Technique. after giving the treatment, students were asked to answer the reading test in the posttest. In analyzing the data the researcher was used paired sample t-test in SPSS 25.0. The research result showed that there was different mean score between pretest and posttest. It was proven by the result of the students’ mean score from pretest was 45.60 and 55.33 in the posttest. It means that the improvement of the students’ mean score was 9.73. It showed that the improvement of the students mean score in the posttest was higher than pretest. From the data analysis, it indicated that there was significant difference from the students’ reading test between pretest and posttest. The results of Paired Sample t-test showed that t-test which was (7.129) higher than t-table (2.045), it means that the students’ reading comprehension ability has an improvement after giving the treatment. Meanwhile, the reasult of sig (2 tailed) 0.000 is lower than 0.05, it means that the Roundtable Techniquecan give any contribution to the students’ reading comprehension ability of descriptive text. From both of the result it can be seen that there was significant different between pretest and posttest on students’ reading comprehension ability of descriptive text after the treatment was given by the researcher. Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that using Roundtable Technique was effective in improving students’ reading comprehension ability of descriptive text at eight grade students of MTs Negeri Tarakan.
