Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kesulitan menulis teks deskripsi oleh siswa kelas 8 di SMPN 5 Tarakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode peneitian deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas 8 di SMPN 5 Tarakan. Peneliti menggunakan tiga teknik dalam pengambilan data yaitu observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Data penelitian ini diolah dan dianalisis menggunkan teori miles dan huberman. Hasil penelitian menunjukan: 1) observasi, dapat di simpulkan bahwa perlunya penjelasan lebih dan pemaparan penjelasan pelajaran lebih intens terutama dalam gaya menulis siswa. 2) interview, menunjukkan bahwa hampir seluruh siswa kesulitan dan tidak suka dalam belajar bahasa inggris. Kesulitan kebanyakan siswa dalam belajar bahasa inggris adalah siswa kurang memiliki kosakata sehingga siswa tidak mengerti arti kata ketika siswa mendengarkan apa yang di katakan guru, ketika siswa berbicara, ketika siswa membaca teks, dan ketika siswa menulis tugas-tugas mereka. 3) dokumen, menunjukkan kemampuan dan keaktifan siswa dalam belajar bahasa inggris di kelas offline dan di kelas online. Di samping itu, peneliti juga menemukan berbagai banyak kendala yang di alami siswa pada saat belajar online. Yaitu siswa sangat kurang mengerti dikarenakan saat belajar online guru hanya memberikan tugas tanpa menjelaskan materi terlebih dahulu. Namun, pada saat belajar tatap muka, siswa kurang mengerti dikarenakan pada saat guru menjelaskan penjelasannya kurang tepat, dan kurangnya jangkauan guru ke siswa sehingga memicu kesulitan siswa dalam menulis. Tetapi di lain sisi keaktifan dan semangat belajar siswa lebih terlihat pada saat pembelajaran tatap muka.

The research was aimed at describing students’ difficulty in writing a descriptive text.This was descriptive qualitative research .The subject was student of eight grad student SMPN5 Tarakan. This employed three data collection techinues ; observation,interview,and documentation. The data were analyzed by using mile and Huberman’s interactive model. Based on the data analysis, it can be drawn some conclusion: 1) from the observation, there was need of more explanation from the teacher to direct thestudents in building there writing style,2) the interview data showed the almost all the students had a difficulty triggered by their limited mastery of English Vocabulary. This problem had put them in an uneasy situation as they were listening in English, speaking in English, reading text, and doing their writing task, and 3) from the document it was proved that a direct teaching was better for promoting the student’s participation than the online meeting; they were nore active in a conventional teaching. In an online class teacher did not provide anadeuate expalation about the topic; the teacher preferred to give them taks and assignment . Yet the students did not have much better situation in direct-meeting classes, as the teacher’s explanation filed to address the issue . Basides, the teacher did not try to engage their students in the learning process.
