Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengukur hubungan antara penguasaan kosakata dan kemampuan berbicara di kelas delapan MTs DDI Tarakan (Madrasah Tsanawiyah Darud Dakwah Wal-Irsyad) Tarakan. Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitian korelasional dan juga menggunakan metode kuantitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII A dan B sebanyak 60 siswa dengan teknik total sampling sebagai sampel penelitian ini. Dalam mengumpulkan data, peneliti menggunakan tes kosakata, tes berbicara, dan wawancara. Data dianalisis menggunakan korelasi Pearson Product Moment. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa rtest sebesar 0,563 lebih tinggi dari rtabel 0.254. Korelasi 0,563 dapat dikatakan hasil penelitian korelasi adalah korelasi negatif. Artinya skor satu variabel dengan variabel lainnya menurun dengan hasil tes yang menunjukkan nilai rata-rata dari tes penguasaan kosa kata adalah 55.9 sedangkan nilai rata – rata untuk tes kemampuan bicara adalah 60 dan hasil dari analisis korelasi tergolong korelasi sedang. Jadi, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan antara penguasaan kosa kata siswa dengan kemampuan berbicara. Dalam penelitian ini diharapkan siswa yang memiliki rasa percaya diri, minat, motivasi, memiliki banyak kosa kata mampu berbicara lebih baik daripada siswa yang kurang kosa kata.

This purpose of this research was to measure the correlation between vocabulary mastery and speaking ability at the eighth grade of MTs DDI Tarakan (Madrasah Tsanawiyah Darud Da’wah Wal-Irsyad) Tarakan. The design of this research was correlation design and also used quantitative approach. The subject of this research was all the eighth grade class A and B using a total sampling technique as the sample of this research. In collecting the data, the researcher used vocabulary test, speaking test, and interview. The data was analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The result of analysis Showed that rtest was 0.563 which was higher than the rtable 0.254. This correlation 0.563 it could be conducted the result of correlation rsearch was negative correlation. It means score of one variable while that other decreases with the result of the test that show the average value of vocabulary mastery test was 55.9 while the average score for the speaking ability test was 60 and the result of the correlation it was classified into a medium correlation. So, it was concluded there was correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and speaking ability.This research was supposed the students who had self-confidence, interest, motivation, had much vocabulary performed speaking better than the student who had lack of vocabulary.
