Abstrak Indonesia

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kebutuhan mahasiswa dalam proses belajar mengajar di mata kuliah speaking for informal interaction di semester kedua , jurusan pendidikan bahasa inggris di universitas borneo tarakan. subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester kedua yang sedang mengikuti mata kuliah speaking for infornal yang berjumlah 74 orang di jurusan pendidikan bahasa inggris. penelitian ini berbentuk deskriptif kuantitatif. data diperoleh melalui wawancara dan kuisioner. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setiap mahasiswa masih memiliki kekurangan penguasaan pada kosakata dalam berlatih berbicara di dalam proses pembelajaran mata kuliah speaking for informal interaction. strategi atau metode pembelajaran yang digunakan oleh dosen telah berbagai macam, disesuaikan dengan kenyamanan dan kemampuan pemahaman mahasiswa. perangkat pembelajaran yang digunakan dosen pun berbagai macam, ada jurnal dan video yang diambil dari internet dan disesuaikan dengan topik pembelajaran. disamping kekurangan penguasaan kosakata bagi mahasiswa, peneliti juga menemukan masih banyak mahasiswa yang kurang aktif dalam kelas sehingga memicu kesulitan mahasiswa dalam berlatih percakapan. hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan, mahasiswa membutuhkan dosen sebagai seorang fasilitator dan motivator untuk kegiatan mata kuliah speaking for informal interaction. hal ini menjadi sebuah perhatian bagi mahasiswa, dosen maupun pemberi fasilitas.

The purpose of this research is to know the students’ needs in teaching and learning process of speaking for informal for second semester students of english education department in borneo tarakan university. the subject of this research is second semester students’ who following the speaking for informal interaction subject which is consisted of 74 students in english education department. it is used descriptive quantitative design. data were collected by interview and questionnaire. the result of this research is shown that every student still lack vocabularies in the learning process of speaking for informal interaction subject. many kinds of strategy or learning method have been used by the lecturer, adjusting by the comfort and students’ understanding ability. lecturer also used many kinds of learning material, there are journals and videos from the internet adjusting by the topic material. beside the lack of vocabularies from the students, the researcher also found students still lack of active in the class, so it’s caused difficulties for students to practice in speaking. the result of the research also showed that the students need the lecturer as a facilitator and motivator. this is become a consideration for students, lecturer and facilitator.
