
Pengaruh Model Problem Based Learning Terhadap Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Siswa Kelas VIII SMP Negeri 4 Tarakan

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model problem based learning terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas viii smp negeri 4 tarakan. jenis penelitian ini adalah quasi experiment menggunakan pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. sampel penelitian yaitu kelas viii-1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas viii-2 sebagai kelas kontrol. variabel yang diukur yaitu kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. pengumpulan data menggunakan instrumen tes berbentuk uraian dan lembar observasi. berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diperoleh nilai rata-rata posttest kemampuan berpikir kritis kelas eksperimen yaitu 50,08 sedangkan kelas control yaitu 48,54. hasil uji independent sample t test pada taraf signifikansi (?) 0,05 diperoleh nilai t hitung sebesar 0,521 sedangkan t tabel sebesar 2,003 yang berarti t hitung< t tabel, sehingga h0 diterima. hal ini menunjukkan tidak ada perbedaan kemampuan berpikir kritis yang signifikan antara kelas eksperimen yang menggunakan model problem based learning dan kelas kontrol yang menggunakan model pembelajaran direct instruction sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak terdapat pengaruh model problem based learning terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas viii smp negeri 4 tarakan. beberapa hal yang dapat menjadi penyebab tidak adanya pengaruh perlakuan dalam penelitian ini, diantaranya: penerapan model problem based learning masih tergolong pengalaman belajar yang baru bagi siswa, siswa kurang aktif selama berdiskusi, sumber informasi yang terbatas, siswa belum terbiasa mengerjakan soal berpikir kritis dan waktu perlakuan yang tergolong singkat.

This study aimed to determine the effect of problem based learning model on critical thinking skills of the fourth grade students at smp negeri 4 tarakan. this was a quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design. class viii-1 as the experimental group and class viii-2 as the control group were taken as the research sample using purposive sampling technique. the measured variable was the students’ critical thinking ability. data were collected using descriptive test and observation sheets. the results of the study showed that in the posttest mean score of critical thinking ability of the experimental class was 50.08 while the control class was 48.54. the independent sample t test results indicated that at the significance level (?) of 0.05, the obtained t value was 0.521 and the critical t value was 2.003 which meant the h0 was accepted as the value of calculated t was lesser than that of the critical t. this showed that there was no significant difference in critical thinking ability between the experimental class taught using the problem based learning model and the control class taught using the direct instruction learning model. it was concluded that there was no effect of the problem based learning model on the critical thinking ability of the fourth grade students at smp negeri 4 tarakan. some possible reasons of this result were that the learning model was considered new to students, learners were less active during discussions, limited sources of information, students were not accustomed to working on critical thinking questions and relatively short treatment time.
