Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari efektivitas dari menggunakan model picture word inductive model (pwim) dapat meningkatkan pemahaman menulis siswa dalam menulis teks deskripsi untuk kelas 7 di smp negeri 6 tarakan. penelitian ini menggunakan desain pre-experimental. populasi dari penelitian ini adalah 192 siswa. sample dari penelitian ini adalah kelas 7 d yang terdiri dari 32 siswa. penentuan sample dilakukan dengan cara teknik purposive. instrumen yang digunakan berupa teks menulis. data yang di proses adalah data dari pretest dan posttest. dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan descriptif analisis dalam aplikasi spps 24.0. hasi penelitian ini menunjukan ada perbedaan skor rata-rata antara pretest dan posttest. hal ini dibuktikan dengan hasil skor rata-rata siswa. skor rata-rata siswa dalam pretest adalah 56.88 dan dalam posttest adalah 73.50. penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa mengalami peningkatan nilai sebesar 16.62. hal ini dapat dilihat pada peningkatan nilai rata-rata siswa pada posttest yang mana lebih tinggi daripada pretest dan menunjukkan ada perbedaan dari nilai menulis siswa antara pretest dan posttest. hasil dari paired sample t-test menunjukkan bahwa t-test adalah 12.257 yang mana lebih tinggi dari t-table yaitu 2.040 (12.357 > 2.040). dengan kata lain hipotesis nol (h0) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (ha) diterima. hasil analisis data membuktikan bahwa hasil pengajaran menggunakan picture word inductive model (pwim) efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman menulis teks deskripsi pada siswa kelas 7 d di smp negeri 6 tarakan.

This study aimed at investigating whether the picture word inductive model (pwim) could improve achievement in writing descriptive text of the seventh grade students at smp negeri 6 tarakan. it used a pre-experimental design. the research population was 192 students. using a purposive sampling technique, the 7 d class which consisted of 32 students were taken as the sample. a writing test was as the research instrument. data analyzed are data from pretest and posttest. data taken from the pretest and posttest writing scores were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the spss 24.0. the results of this study indicated that there were 16.62 points of difference in the average writing score between the pretest (56.88) and the posttest (73.50). the results of paired sample t-test showed that the calculated t value was 12,357 and the critical t value was 2,040. as the calculated tvalue was greater that the critical t value (12,357 > 2,040), the null hypothesis (h0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. the results of this analysis proved that the use of pwim was effective in increasing achievement of writing descriptive text for the seventh grade students at smp negeri 6 tarakan.
