Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dengan menggunakan model make a match. penelitian ini dilakukan dalam dua siklus, dimulai dari tanggal 13 mei sampai dengan 22 mei 2013 di smp negeri 5 tarakan yang berlokasi di jalan meranti, gunung lingkas, tarakan. obyek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas tujuh (vii-4) di smp negeri 5 tarakan tahun pembelajaran 2012/2013 yang terdiri dari 34 siswa. obyek diberikan materi pelajaran tentang teks prosedur dengan menggunakan model make a match. kriteria ketuntasan minimum pada penelitian ini adalah ?75. untuk menentukan keberhasilan dalam penelitian ini, peneliti telah menetapkan indikator keberhasilan adalah 75% dari jumlah siswa kelas vii-4 dapat mencapai kriteria ketuntasan minimum. untuk memastikan pemahaman membaca siswa, peneliti telah memberikan tes tertulis dalam bentuk pilihan ganda. hasil pada penelitian siklus i, sepuluh siswa atau 29% dari jumlah siswa tidak mencapai kriteria kentuntasan minimum dan dua puluh empat siswa atau 71% dari jumlah siswa telah mencapai kriteria ketuntasan minimum. sedangkan pada hasil penelitian siklus ii, tiga siswa atau 9% dari jumlah siswa tidak mencapai kriteria ketuntasan minimum dan tiga puluh satu siswa atau 91% dari jumlah siswa telah mencapai kriteria ketuntasan minimum. berdasarkan pada hasil penelitian ini, tiga puluh satu siswa atau 91% dari jumlah siswa telah mencapai kriteria ketuntasan minimum. model make a match yang telah diterapkan dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa pada materi teks prosedur di kelas vii-4 smp negeri 5 tarakan.

The objective of this research is to improve the students’ reading comprehension through make a match model. this research was conducted by two cycles which started from 13th may 2013 until 22th may 2013 in smp negeri 5 tarakan located on meranti street, gunung lingkas, tarakan. the objects of this research was the seventh grade students (vii-4) of smp negeri 5 tarakan in academic year 2012/2013 consisting of 34 students. the objects were taught procedure text material through make a match as learning model. the minimum criteria of success in this research was ?75. to determine the success of this research, researcher has indicator of success is 75% of the total seventh grade (vii-4)students could achieve the minimum criteria of success. to measure the reading comprehension of students, researcher gave multiple choice test. the test result in cycle i, there were ten students or 29 % from total students did not achieve the minimum criteria of success and twenty four students or 71% from total students could achieve the minimum criteria of success. while the result in cycle ii, three students or 9% from total students did not achieve the minimum criteria of success and thirty one students or 91% from total students could achieve the minimum criteria of success. based on the result of this research, there are thirty one students or 91% from total students could achieve the minimum criteria of success. make a match model can improve the students’ reading comprehension on procedure text in seventh grade (vii-4) students at smp negeri 5 tarakan.
