The objective of this research was to improve the student's achievement on reading comprehension through cooperative integrated reading and composition (circ) method at class viii-1 of smpn 3 tarakan. the design on this research was classroom action research (car). this research was conducted in smpn 3 tarakan located on jl. sungai berantas kampung empat, tarakan timur started from 17 october 2013 until 28 november 2013. the subject of this research was the students at class viii-1 of smpn 3 tarakan which consists of 32 students. based in the criteria of success thus result showed that cooperative integrated reading composiition (circ) method can improve student's achievement and increase the student's comprehension on reading. this was proven from the result from reading comprehension test, student and teacher's observation. from the reading comprehension test result on cycle 1 there were 25 students ho could pass the minimum passing grade and 7 students were failed. the highest score was 100 and the lowest score was 40 and the average score was 78,12. based on the result, the study conclude that cooperative integrated reading and composition can improve the students achievement in reading comprehension at class viii-1 of smpn 3 tarakan
