Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan dari penggunaan strategi picture series dan model cartoon movie dalam meningkatkan nilai tulisan teks naratif. metode penelitian ini adalah quasi experimental. populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas delapan di smpn 9 tarakan. jumlah sampel penelitian ini adalah 58 siswa. sampel diambil dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. ada dua kelas yang diambil sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kontrol. kelas viii-7 berjumlah 29 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen diajar menggunakan strategi picture series sedangkan kelas viii-5 sebagai kelas kontrol berjumlah 29 siswa diajarkan dengan menggunakan cartoon movie instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes tertulis. tahap-tahap dalam penelitian ini adalah pretest, treatment, and posttest. data yang dianalisis adalah data nilai hasil pretest dan posttest dari kelas eksperimen dan kontrol. peneliti menggunakan kolmogorov smirnov untuk menguji normalitas, one way anova untuk mengujihomogenitas, dan independent sample ttest untuk mengetahui perbedaan antara kelas dengan menggunakan spss version 22.0. hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa uji normalitas antara kelas eksperimen dan kontrol adalah (0.200 dan 0.197) pada pretest dan (0.077 dan 0.200) pada posttest. ini berarti probability value (sig.) lebih besar daripada level signifikan (>0.05). sedangkan, hasil dari varian homogen adalah (0.412) pada pretest, (0.155) pada posttest. nilai signifikan dari pretest lebih rendah daripada level signifikan tapi postest adalah lebih besar daripada level signifikan. ini berarti sampel memiliki varian yang sama. dalam hasil skor independent sampe t-test adalah (0.278) pada pretest lebih rendah daripada t tabel (2.003). ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada peningkatan setelah mendapatkan penerapan dari peneliti. berdasarkan penjelasan diatas, nilai siswa memiliki peningkatan setelah diajarkan menggunakan strategi picture series. dapat disimpulkan bahwa strategi picture series lebih efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa daripada model cartoon movie. .

The general objective of the study was to find out whether there was any significant effect of the students who were taught by using picture series in improving students’ writing score in narrative text. the method of the research was quasi experimental. the population of this research were all of eight grade at smpn 9 tarakan. the number of samples in this research were 58 students. samples were chosen by using purposive sampling. there were two classes as sample in this research they were the experiment and control class. viii-7 class consisting 29 students as experiment class was taught by using picture series, while class viii-5 as control class consisting 29 students was taught by using cartoon movie. the instrument of this research was written test. the steps of this research were pretest, treatment, and posttest. the instrument of this research was writing test. the data was taken from students’ score in pretest and posttest of experiment and control class. the researcher used kolmogorovsmirnov to test normality, one way anova to test homogeneity and independent sample t test to know the differences between both of the class by using spss version 22.0. the research results shows that normality test between experiment and control class value were (0.200 and 0.197) in pretest and (0.077 and 0.200) in posttest. it illustrated that the probability value (sig.) was higher than the level of significance (>0.05). therefore, the result of homogeneity of variance were (0.412) in pretest, (0.155) in posttest. the significance value on pretest was lower than the level of significance but postest was higher than the level of significance. it indicates that the sample has homogeneous variants. in independent sample t-test result were (0.278) in pretest was lower than t table (2.003) it can be concluded that there was improvement after got the treatment that given by the researcher. based on the explanation above, the students’ score increased after being taught by using picture series. it can be concluded that picture series strategy is more effective to increase students’ writing score than cartoon movie model
