Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan dari penggunaan model course review horay dalam meningkatkan nilai tulisan siswa dalam teks deskripsi. penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian pre eksperimental. populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh kelas viii di smp negeri 6 tanjung selor. jumlah populasi adalah seluruh siswa kelas 8. jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 25 siswa. penentuan sampel dengan cara teknik cluster random sampling. ada satu kelas sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu kelas yang diberi perlakuan. kelas viii-a sebagai kelas yang diberi perlakuan. kelas yang diberi perlakuan berjumlah 25 siswa. tahap-tahap dalam penelitian ini adalah pretest, treatment dan posttest. pada tahap pretest siswa diminta untuk menulis sebuah teks deskripsi tentang teman terdekat mereka. setelah pretest, peneliti memberikan treatment. kelas yang diberi perlakuan diajarkan menggunakan model course review horay. setelah diberikan treatment, siswa diminta untuk menulis sebuah teks deskripsi pada tahap posttest. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan dari nilai siswa antara pretest dan posttest. ini dibuktikan melalui hasil nilai rata-rata siswa dari pretest adalah 61.12 dan 73.76 pada hasil posttest. ini berarti terdapat peningkatan nilai rata-rata sebesar 12.64. dari hasil analysis data mengindikasikan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan dari nilai menulis siswa antara pretest dan posttest. hasil dari paired sample t test pada pretest menunjukkan bahwa -3.371 dan lebih kecil dari angka t table (-2.604) itu berarti tulisan siswa mengalami peningkatan setelah perlakuan diberikan. sedangkan hasil dari perbandingan sig (2 tailed) 0.003 lebih kecil dari 0.05, itu berarti bahwa course review horay dapat memberikan kontribusi pada kemampuan menulis siswa pada teks deskripsi. dari kedua hasil tersebut dapat dilihat bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara pretest dan posttest dalam menulis teks deskripsi setelah perlakuan diberikan oleh peneliti. berdasarkan penjelasan diatas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa menggunakan model course review horay efektif dalam pengajaran menulis

This research objective was to find out whether there was any significant difference in students before and after using course review horay model in teaching writing at the eighth grade students of smp negeri 6 tanjung selor. this research used pre experimental design. the populations in this research were all of eighth grade students at smp negeri 6 tanjung selor. the numbers of sample in this research were 25 students. the samples were chosen by using cluster random sampling technique. there was one class as the sample. class for treatment class was viii-a. it consisted of 25 students. the steps in this research were pretest, treatment, and posttest. in the pretest, the students were asked to write a descriptive text about their bestfriend. after giving pretest, the researcher gave treatment. the treatment class was taught by using course review horay model. after giving the treatment, students were asked to write a descriptive text about their family in the posttest. the research result showed that there was different mean score between pretest and posttest. it was proven by the result of the students’ mean score from pretest was 61.12 and 73.76 in the posttest. it meant that the improvement of the students’ mean score in was 12.64. it showed that the improvement of the students’ mean score in the posttest was higher than pretest. from the data analysis, it indicated that there was significant difference from the students’ writing score between pretest and posttest. the result of paired sample t test showed that -3.371 and lower than t table (-2.604), it means that the students writing have an improvement after giving the treatment. meanwhile, the result of sig (2 tailed) 0.003 is lower than 0.05, it means that the course review horay can give any contribution to the students’ writing skill in descriptive text. from both of the result it can be seen that there is significant different between pretest and posttest in writing descriptive text after the treatment is given by the researcher. based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that using course review horay model is effective in teaching writing.
