Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui terdapat perbedaan kosa kata siswa secara signifikan sebelum dan sesudah menggunakam poster di smp negeri 2 tarakan. penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental dengan bentuk preeksperimental. populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh kelas vii smp negeri 2 tarakan. sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas vii-d. jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 32 siswa. penentuan sampel dengan cara teknik purposive sampling.terdapat satu kelas dalam penelitian ini sebagai kelas yang diberi perlakuan. kelas vii-d adalah kelas yang diberi perlakuan. kelas yang diberi perlakuan berjumlah 32 siswa. tahap-tahap dalam penelitian ini adalah pretest, treatment dan posttest. pada tahap pretest siswa diminta untuk mengerjakan soal kosa kata. setelah pretest, peneliti memberikan treatment. kelas yang diberi perlakuan diajarkan menggunakan media poster. setelah diberikan treatment, siswa diminta untuk mengerjakan soal kosa katai pada tahap posttest. dalam menganalisis data peneliti menggunakan paired sample t-test dalam aplikasi spss 22.0. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan dari nilai siswa antara pretest dan posttest. ini dibuktikan melalui hasil nilai rata-rata siswa dari pretest adalah 61.16 dan 81.59 pada hasil posttest. ini berarti terdapat peningkatan nilai rata-rata sebesar 20.531. dari hasil analysis data mengindikasikan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan dari nilai tes kosa kata siswa antara pretest dan posttest. hasil dari paired sample t-test menunjukkan bahwa (9.359) lebih besar dari angka t-table (1.696) itu berarti pemahaman membaca siswa mengalami peningkatan setelah perlakuan diberikan. sedangkan hasil dari perbandingan sig (2 tailed) 0.000 lebih kecil dari 0.05, itu berarti bahwa media poster dapat memberikan kontribusi pada kemampuan penguasaan kosa kata siswa. dari kedua hasil tersebut dapat dilihat bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara pretest dan posttest dalam penguasaan kosa kata setelah perlakuan yang diberikan oleh peneliti. berdasarkan penjelasan diatas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa menggunakan media poster efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa.

This research objective was to find out whether there was any significant difference in student’s vocabulary mastery before and after being taught by using poster in seventh grade students of smp negeri 2 tarakan. this research was an experimental research and used pre experimental design. the population in this research was all of the seventh grade students at smp negeri 2 tarakan. the number of sample in this research was 32 students. the sample was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. there was one class as the sample. class for treatment was vii-d. it consisted of 32 students. the steps in this research were pretest, treatment, and posttest. in the pretest, the students were asked to answer the vocabulary test. after giving pretest, the researcher gave treatment. the treatment class was taught by using poster. after giving the treatment, students were asked to answer the vocabulary test in the posttest. in analyzing the data the researcher was used paired sample t-test in spss 22.0. the research result showed that there was different mean score between pretest and posttest. it was proven by the result of the students’ mean score from pre-test was 61.16 and 81.69 in the posttest. it means that the improvement of the students’ mean score was 20.531. it shows that the improvement of the students’ mean score in the posttest was higher than pretest. from the data analysis, it indicated that there was significant difference from the students’ vocabulary test between pretest and posttest. the result of paired sample t test showed that t-test which was (9.359) higher than t-table (1.696), it means that the students vocabulary have an improvement after giving the treatment. meanwhile, the result of sig (2 tailed) 0.000 is lower than 0.05, it means that the poster can give any contribution to the students’ vocabulary mastery. from both of the result it can be seen that there is significant different between pretest and posttest on students’ vocabulary mastery after the treatment is given by the researcher. based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that using poster is effective in teaching vocabulary.
