Abstrak Indonesia

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan signifikan dari penggunaan metode four square writing dan metode estafet writing terhadap pencapaian nilai siswa kelas viii smp negeri 7 tarakan dalam menulis teks deskriptif. penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuasi eksperimental. sampel diambil dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. ada dua kelas sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. kelas viii-6 sebagai kelas eksperimental yang diajar menggunakan metode four square writing dan kelas viii-7 sebagai kelas kontrol yang diajar menggunakan metode estafet writing. jumlah sampel setiap kelas adalah 32 orang. peneliti menganalisis data menggunakan spss versi 22. hasil uji normalitas pada pretest adalah 0.074 dan 0.074 pada posttest. sedangkan, hasil uji homogenitas adalah 0.321 pada kelas eksperimental. kemudian, hasil uji normalitas pretest 0.177 dan 0.148 pada posttest dan hasil uji homogenitas adalah 0.166 pada kelas kontrol. hasil kedua kelas menunjukkan uji normalitas dan homogenitas lebih tinggi dari level of significance (>0,05). itu berarti bahwa nilai pretest dan posttest kedua kelas terdistribusi secara normal dan homogen. hasil nilai rata-rata siswa kelas eksperimen dalam pretest adalah 56.25 dan 72.50 pada hasil posttest. hasil nilai rata-rata siswa pada kelas kontrol dalam pretest adalah 57.81 dan 65.31 pada posttest. hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kelas eksperimen memiliki peningkatan nilai rata-rata lebih tinggi dari kelas kontrol. hasil independent sample t-test pada pretest menunjukkan bahwa (-0.630) lebih kecil dari t-table (-1.999), itu berarti kedua kelas tidak ada peningkatan apapun sebelum treatment diberikan. hasil independent sample t-test pada posttest menunjukkan bahwa (2.564) lebih besar dari t-table (1.999). itu berarti ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelas eksperimental dan kontrol dalam kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif. berdasarkan keterangan diatas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa menggunakan metode four square writing method dalam menulis teks deskriptif lebih efektif daripada menggunakan metode estafet writing.

The objective of this research was to find out whether there was any significant difference between the students who were taught by using four square writing method and those who were taught by using estafet writing method. this research used quasi experimental design. the samples were chosen by using purposive sampling. in this research there were two classes as sample. they were experimental class and control class. the experimental class was viii-6 which was taught by using four square writing method and class viii-7 as a control class which was taught by using estafet writing method. the sample of each class was 32 students. the researcher analyzed students’ score by using spss version 22. the result of normality data in pretest was 0.074 and 0.127 in posttest, while the result of homogeneity of variance was 0.321 in experimental class. then, the result of normality data pretest was 0.177 and posttest was 0.148 and the result of homogeneity of variance was 0.166 in control class. it shows that the score both of the class in normality data and homogeneity of variance were higher than the level of significance (0.05). it means that pretest and posttest score in experimental and control class were distributed normally and homogeneous. the result of the students’ mean score from experimental class in the pretest was 56.25 and 72.50 in the posttest and the students’ mean score for control class in the pretest was 57.81 and 65.31 in the posttest. it shows that the students’ score in experimental class was higher than control class. the result of independent sample t-test in pretest shows that (-0.630) were lower than t-table (-1.999). it means that both of the class had no improvement before the treatment was giving treatment. meanwhile, the result of independent sample t-test in posttest shows that (2.564) was higher than t-table (1.999). it means that there was significant difference between experimental and control class in writing achievement on descriptive text. based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that using four square writing method in writing descriptive text was more effective than using estafet writing method.
