Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari penggunaan make a match method dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca teks descriptive pada siswa kelas tujuh di smp negeri 12 tarakan tahun akademik 2016/2017. penelitian ini menggunakan desain pre eksperimental. populasi dari penelitian ini adalah 225 siswa kelas tujuh di smp negeri 12 tarakan. sampel dari penelitian ini adalah kelas vii-4 yang terdiri dari 38 siswa. sampel diambil dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. tahap-tahap dalam penelitian ini adalah pre-test, treatment, dan post-test. pada tahap pre-test, siswa diminta untuk menjawab soal pilihan ganda teks deskriptif. setelah pre-test, peneliti memberikan treatment. treatment yang diberikan pada kelas eksperimen adalah make a match method. setelah diberikan treatment, siswa diminta untuk menjawab soal pilihan ganda tahap post-test. hasil dari penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang significant antara nilai pre-test dan post-test. ini dibuktikan melalui hasil nilai rata-rata siswa yakni 21.84. dari hasil perhitungan menggunakan paired samples t-test dapat diketahui bahwa nilai sig.2 tailed lebih kecil dibandingkan level of significant (0.000 < 0.05). hasil tersebut mengindikasikan bahwa hipotesis alternatif (ha) diterima dan hipotesis nol (h0) ditolak. dengan demikian terdapat pengaruh signifikan dari penggunaan make a match method dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca teks deskriptif. paired samples t-test telah dianalisis menggunakan spss version 22.0. secara keseluruhan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa make a match method efektif dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca teks deskriptif pada siswa kelas tujuh di smp negeri 12 tarakan tahun akademik 2016/2017.

The objective of this research was to find out the significant effect of using make a match method in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text at seventh grade students of smp negeri 12 tarakan in academic year 2016/2017. this research used pre experimental design. the population of this research were 225 students of the seventh graders at smp negeri 12 tarakan. the sample of this research was vii-4 class that consisted of 38 students. the sample was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. the steps in this research were pre-test, treatment and post-test. in the pre-test, the students were asked to answer the questions of multiples choices a descriptive text . after giving pre-test, the researcher gave the treatment. the experiment class was taught by using make a match method. after giving the treatment, students were asked to answer the questions of multiples choices in the post-test. the result of this research showed that there was significant difference between score of pre-test and post-test. it showed that the improvement of the students’ mean score was 21.84. paired samples t-test showed that sig. (2 tailed) was lower than level of significant (0.000 < 0.05). it indicated that the alternative hypothesis ( ) was accepted and the null hypothesis (h0) was rejected. thus, there was a significant effect of using make a match method in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text. the paired samples t-test was analyzed by used spss version 22.0. to sum up, make a match method was effective in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text at seventh graders of smp negeri 12 tarakan in academic year 2016/2017.
