Abstrak Indonesia

Penelitian in bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh atau tidak dari metode talking stick dalam mengajar berbicara (speaking). penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian pre eksperimental. populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas viii di smp negeri 5 tarakan. jumlah populasi adalah 272 siswa. penelitian ini menggunakan purposive sampling technique. sample dalam penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas viii-7 yang berjumlah 33 orang. tahap-tahap dalam penelitian ini adalah pre-test, treatment dan posttest. pada tahap pre-test siswa diminta untuk menceritakan pengalaman mereka. setelah melakukan pre-test, peneliti memberikan treatment menggunakan metode talking stick. setelah diberikan treatment, peneliti memberikan post-test. pada tahap post-test siswa diminta untuk menceritakan pengalaman mereka. hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan nilai pre-test dan post-test. ini dapat dilihat dari nilai rata-rata siswa dalam pre-test yaitu 32.06 dan dalam post-test yaitu 72.97. hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan dari nilai berbicara siswa antara sebelum dan sesudah mendapatkan treatment. degree of freedom (df) adalah 32 dan hasil dari t-test adalah -11.136. sig.2 tailed lebih rendah daripada level of significant (0,000 < 0,05). dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode talking stick dapat membantu meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa kelas viii-7 di smp negeri 5 tarakan.

This research objective was to find out whether or not talking stick method has an influence in teach speaking. this research used pre experimental design. the population in this research was the eight grade students in smp negeri 5 tarakan. the total of population was 272 students. this research used purposive sampling technique. the sample was students of viii-7 as an experimental class consisting of 33 students. the procedure of collecting the data was pre-test, treatment and posttest. in pre-test, the students were asked to talk about their experience. after giving pre-test, the researcher gave the treatment used talking stick method. after giving the treatment, the researcher gave the post-test. in post-test, the students were asked to talk about their experience. the result of this research shows that there was different mean score between pre-test and post-test. it is shown by the result of the mean score of the students in pre-test was 32.06 and in post-test 72.97. it means there is an improvement of the score. from the data analysis, it shows that there was a significant difference of students? score between before and after getting the treatment. the degree of freedom (df) was 32. the result of t-test was (-11.136). the sig.2 tailed is lower than level of significant (0,000 < 0,05). therefore, it can be concluded that talking stick method can improve the students? speaking skill at the viii-7 grade of smp negeri 5 tarakan.
