
THE EFFECTIVENESS OF BRAINWRITING STRATEGY TO ENHANCE STUDENT WRITING SKILLS OF DESCRIPTIVE TEXT AT ELEVENTH GRADE OF SMAN 3 TARAKAN

Menulis merupakan salah satu keterampilan yang penting dalam bahasa inggris yang sering kali menjadi kesulitan bagi siswa, khususnya dalam menyusun teks deskriptif. oleh karena itu, diperlukan penerapan strategi pembelajaran yang kreatif dan efektif. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa besar pengaruh strategi brainwriting terhadap kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif siswa kelas xi di sman 3 tarakan. penelitian ini menggunakan metode pre-eksperimental dengan desain one-group pretest-posttest. subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas xi sman 3 tarakan, dengan sampel sebanyak 34 siswa dari kelas xi-d. instrumen pengumpulan data berupa tes tertulis yang terdiri dari pre-test dan post-test. analisis data dilakukan menggunakan program spss versi 23.0. hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pre-test adalah 48,12 dan meningkat menjadi 66,98 pada post-test. berdasarkan hasil uji paired sample t-test, diperoleh nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,000 yang berarti lebih kecil dari 0,05. hal ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis alternatif diterima, sementara hipotesis nol ditolak. dengan demikian, penggunaan strategi brainwriting terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis teks deskriptif siswa kelas xi di sman 3 tarakan. kata kunci: strategi brainwriting, keterampilan menulis, teks deskriptif, pembelajaran bahasa inggris

Writing is one of the important skills in english that often poses challenges for students, especially when it comes in creating descriptive texts. because of this, there's a need for some creative and effective teaching strategies. this research aimed to find out how much of an impact the brainwriting strategies have on the writing skills of eleventh-grade students at sman 3 tarakan. this research employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. the research subjects were the 11th-grade students from sman 3 tarakan, with a sample size of 34 students from class xi-d. the data collection instrument is a written test consisting of a pre-test and a post-test. data analysis was conducted using spss version 23.0. the results of the analysis indicated that the average pre-test score was 48.12 and it increased to 66.98 in the post-test. based on the results of the paired sample t-test, a significance score of 0.000 was obtained, which was less than 0.05. this indicated that the alternative hypothesis is accepted, while the null hypothesis is rejected. therefore, the use of the brainwriting strategy is proven to be effective in improving the writing skills of the 11th-grade students at sman 3 tarakan. keywords: brainwriting strategy, writing skills, descriptive text, english language learning.
