Mata pelajaran bahasa inggris merupakan salah satu pelajaran yang memegang peranan penting bagi siswa. keterampilan berbahasa inggris terdiri dari mendengarkan, berbicara, membaca, dan menulis yang harus dikuasai oleh siswa. selama pandemic covid-19, pembelajaran bahasa inggris dilaksanakan melalaui pembelajaran daring. tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa kelas delapan di smp negeri 1 tarakan tentang pembelajaran bahasa inggris melalui daring. peneliti menggunakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa keladelapan smp negeri 1 tarakan. instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuisioner dan wawancara. data dianalisa menggunakan teori miles dan huberman meliputi data collection, data reduction, data display, dan conclusions drawing/verifyig. hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa siswa lebih menyukai tatap muka daripada pembelajaran daring, karena ketika pembelajaran bahasa inggris dilakukan melalui beberapa aplikasi, siswa merasa sulit memahami materi yang disajikan. kata kunci: persepsi siswa, pembelajaran daring, mata pelajaran bahasa inggris

This english is one of the subjects that plays an important role for the students. english skills consist of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that must be mastered by the students. during covid-19 pandemic, english learning was conducted through online learning. the purpose of th study was to determine the perceptions of eight grade students at smp negeri 1 tarakan about online english learning. the researcher used a descripive qualitative method. the subject of the research was eight grade students at smp negeri 1 tarakan. the instruments of the research used were quistionnaires and interview guide. data were analyzed by using the theory of miles and huberman including data collection, data reduction, data display and conclusion: drawing/verifying. the result showed that students preferred offline learning or face-toface learning than online learning, because when english learning was conducted through some applications, students found it difficult to understand the material presented. keywords: students’ perception, online learning, english subject
