Tujuan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah apakah ada pengaruh teknik self instruction terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas viii smp negeri 8 tarakan tahun pelajaran 2015/ 2016. penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh teknik self instruction terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas viii smp negeri 8 tarakan tahun pelajaran 2015/2016. jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian pre-experimental design dengan bentuk one group pretest-posttest design. populasi dalam penelitian ini yaitu 239 siswa kelas viii smp negeri 8 tarakan dan sampel 10 siswa kelas viii smp negeri 8 tarakan. metode pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini menggunakan skala kemampuan berpikir kritis dengan skala likert. penelitian ini menggunakan rumus product moment untuk uji validitas skala kemampuan berpikir kritis dengan hasil dari 68 butir pernyataan terdapat 24 butir yang valid. teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensial dengan analisis menggunakan program spss 22 for windows. berdasarkan hasil perhitungan uji wilcoxon dengan analisis menggunakan spss 22for windows diperoleh nilai asymp sig = 0,005 ˂ α = 0,05 maka h0 ditolak yang berarti bahwa ada pengaruh kemampuan berpikir kritis sebelum dan sesudah diberikan perlakuan teknik self instruction. maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa adanya pengaruh teknik self instruction terhadap kemampuan berpikir siswa kelas viii smp negeri 8 tarakan tahun pelajaran 2015/2016. kata kunci: teknik self instruction, kemampuan berpikir kritis

The research problem of this research was that is any influence of self instruction technique toward students’ critical thinking ability in grade viii of smp negeri 8 tarakan in academic year 2015/2016. this research is purposed to know the influence of self instruction technique toward students’ critical thinking ability in grade viii of smp negeri 8 tarakan in academic year 2015/2016. the design of this research is pre-experimental design with one group pretest posttest design. population in this research was 239 students in grade viii of smp negeri 8 tarakan and the sample was 10 students in grade viii of smp negeri 8 tarakan by using purpossive sampling technique. the instrument of this research was questions are by using students’ critical thinking ability scale with likert scale. this research was using person product moment formula to validate the items of students’ critical thinking ability scale out off 68 statements there were 24 valid statement. the data analysis technic in this research was descriptive and inferential statistical procedures by using spss 22 program for windows. based on the counting result of wilcoxon test with spss 22 program for windows analysis it obtained the score of asymp sig = 0,005 < α = 0,05 so h0is rejected it means that there is an influence of critical thinking before and after giving the treatment of the self instruction technique. so, it can be conclude there is an influence of self instruction technic toward students’ critical thinking ability in grade viii of smp negeri 8 tarakan in academic year 2015/2016. keywords: self instruction technique, critical thinking ability
